H λίστα με τις υποψηφιότητες για τα βραβεία Emmy 2016 ανακοινώθηκαν πριν λίγο στο Λος Άντζελες και φέτος ο απόλυτος θρίαμβος υποψηφιοτήτων ανήκει στο Game of Thrones (συνολικά 23). Ωστόσο αξίζει να σημειωθεί πως η σειρά φαινόμενο, το 2015 είχε 24 υποψηφιότητες και συνολικά απέσπασε 12 βραβεία.
Εντυπωσιακές επιδόσεις καταγράφει επίσης η τηλεοπτική σειρά του δικτύου HBO " The People vs O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story" που πραγματεύεται την πολύκροτη δίκη του διάσημου Αμερικανού αθλητή και ηθοποιού, την οποία προβάλλει το δίκτυο FX κι έχει συγκεντρώσει 22 υποψηφιότητες.
Κάθε χρόνο απονέμονται βραβεία σε περίπου 100 κατηγορίες, αλλά ανακοινώνονται οι βασικότερες ενώ η τελετή θα μεταδοθεί στις 18 Σεπτεμβρίου από το δίκτυο ABC.
